The setting of our country cabins is on the edge of a little valley, nestled in the pines, with the mountains and Black Hills National Forest rising directly behind.  History abounds our cabins some of which were once on the site of the Harney Peak Tin Mining and Mfg. Co., in the 1880's.

We are a small family business, just one mile from the friendly mountain town of Hill City where you will find excellent dining, churches, shops, art galleries, groceries, gas, laundromat, and entertainment.  There are nice lakes with beach areas within seven miles for water fun.  The George S. Mickelson Trail (rails to trails) runs parallel to us just across the road, with public access less than 1 mile at the Tracy Park trail head in Hill City.

Golfers will find 18 picturesque courses to choose from in the surrounding Black Hills area, with Custer being the closest.

Parents of young children really appreciate our fenced in playground with its huge sandbox; while the bigger "kids" are free to explore the forest around us, or play a game of volleyball.

After Thanksgiving, a Christmas tree permit can be purchased at the local ranger station.  Deerfield Lake, our favorite for ice fishing, is just 14 miles from us.  You will also find snowmobile rentals and cross country trailheads nearby.  Our availability in the winter months is varied and advance reservations are required.  Please give us a call and if we can't accommodate you we'll help you find someone who can.

THE BATHHOUSE is the place to be after an active day of outdoor pursuits. The hot tub is available year round for ages 12 and up. During the cool months our Finnish Sauna is a popular hot spot! The traditional Finnish Sauna is heated by wood, so give us some notice if you would like us to have it stoked up for you.

Frequently asked questions:

What shall I wear?

Summer days are generally cooler in the hills with temperatures in the 70's and 80's, while nights can get as low as the 30's, so it is wise to bring sweatshirts and jeans as well as your summer clothes.  You will be glad you brought comfortable shoes for hiking and walking.  A bathing suit is required for use of the hot tub and sauna or if you plan to visit a waterslide park.

Are the cabins air conditioned?

No, resting on the shady side of the mountain at approximately 5000 feet above the sea level, heat and humidity are usually held in check. Our cabins are nature cooled, but fans are available should nature need a little help. With the windows open you will breathe fresh mountain air and wake to the scent of pine.

Do the cabins have heat or fireplaces?

The four seasons cabins are heated with a cozy gas fireplace while cabin #5 has both woodburning and free standing gas fireplace. The three season cabins have electric heat.

Do you provide breakfast?

You may as well sleep in. Although some B&B guides do carry us because of our unique accomodations, we leave the cooking up to you. The kitchenettes are equipped and you'll find everything you need - including specialty coffees - in the shops and grocery store right in Hill City. If you'd prefer to dine out, we'd be happy to share a list of our favorite nearby resaurants with you. Ask about "Breakfast in Bed" Romance package available in the fall and winter seasons.

Is there hiking nearby?

Feel free to truly hike and explore the natural beauty of the Black Hills National Forest directly adjoining our property. There are also numerous mapped and marked trails in the Black Hills National Forest and Custer State Park within an easy drive. The Mickelson trail access is less than one mile. We are happy to share with you those we've hiked or provide a source of information on those we haven't. We find the Black Hills to be very accessible hiking for all ages and abilities.

Do you have a pool?

No, but do bring your suits to enjoy a sunny day at one of the area lakes. We are happy to point you in the right direction. Some of the marinas rent pontoon boats and fishing boats, or paddle boats and canoes. There is a waterslide park within 20 miles as well as the naturally heated indoor and outdoor pools at Hot Springs' Evans Plunge about an hour from us. Custer, 11 miles, has a public pool and there are several in Rapid City - 27 miles.
